I decided to start my weightloss journey to help improve my health and recover from the emergency csection id undergone due to the birth of my 5th child. After this procedure I also was unlucky enough to contract sepsis. I knew things had to change for the better so I made the decision to take my health serious.
I started at 78kg by week 6 postpartum I was down to 71.6kg and ready to do a little more to support my recovery and health.

Day 3 of my journey and I new I had a lot of
work to do but for now recovery and breastfeeding were at the top of my priorities.
Good nutrition, supplementing with vitamins, omega’s, staying hydrated and trying to re-engage my abdominal muscles and pelvic floor.
Breathing exercises and short 30min walks 3 times a week to get into the flow of things was all I could manage and I didnt push myself too far as the fatigue from recovering from sepsis would kick in.
By week 2 at 7 weeks postpartum i had dropped 1.2kg this week, by just adding in 3 walks a week, eating a balanced nutritious diet with vegetables/fruit that consists of lots of different colours. I also
Supplement with a multivitamin, iron, high strength omega 3 and high strength vitamin D. Keeping myself hydrated with atleast 3litres of water is exceptionally important not only for me but my baby too as I am still breastfeeding. Breastfeeding with all these factors has seemed alot easier this time round and tiredness doesnt affect me as negatively.
By week 5 and 10 weeks postpartum I have lost 1.5 inches from my waist and 3 whole inches on my upper leg (thigh) area. I achieved this by adding Smart staged training to my day: 4 sets of bodyweight sessions spread evenly across the day.
Try adding it to your day to see if you have any improvements, the best part is each set takes a maximum of 2min max and doesnt feel to strenous on your scar area (please see my page on Smart training).

Week 7 at 12 weeks postpartum iv gone down to 69.9kg steadily losing weight not by dieting but by eating healthy nutritious foods and adding exercise to my regime. I have noticed that by training in 4 mini sections throughout the day my body is responding positively. I have added kettle bell training in this past week and my stomach and thigh area have seemed to have already started to respond positively. By this week I can now feel my upper abdominal muscles when I contract them showing me that my training is helping me rather than regressing me. By training smart my body will respond positively and get stronger each week as opposed to starving myself and causing my healing body to regress or to negatively impact my breastmilk supply .
Week 15 at 20weeks postpartum think out of all the weeks so far this week has been the hardest, trying to stay consistent and look after 3 poorly babies (sleep has taken a back burner) has been a challenge even with the support of my amazing partner.
Life happens and everything doesn’t always go to plan or is easy sailing. In times like these I tell people who are negative and feel as though they have ruined all their hard work that one bad day isn’t going to destroy all your amazing results, heck even 3-4 days isn’t aslong as you get back on it and put the bad days down to learning and adapting in your new lifestyle commitment. Ask yourself would you quit your job of 2 years with all your qualifications and experience if you had one bad week,no you wouldn’t,so why is your diet/lifestyle any different.
This week Iv had to try and eat the most convenient foods for my situation,my hydration could have been better and the times of my meals weren’t perfect, but my children are nearly free from the illness they’d had, they are safe and I’m still alive and healthy (I still managed to take my vitamins and omegas),that’s what matters. So when you feel like giving up remember it’s not all bad don’t throw in the towel and do yourself proud!

What a difference in a year… December 2018 looked a whole lot different from December 2019…December 2018 I was heavily pregnant blissfully unaware what a rollercoaster of events were about to happen…I weighed about 89kg while pregnant and by December 2019 I weighed 63kg…it amazes me what the human body can go through…a year really does make a difference…it’s been a struggle to get back but I’m feeling stronger and healthier everyday…looking forward to 2020 and the new adventures to come with my amazing husband and 5 children ❤
