Weightloss journey: 12months and beyond.

4 weeks postpartum Vs 11months postpartum.

The picture on the left was taken 4 weeks postpartum after emergency csection on my 5th pregnancy and surviving sepsis (I’d just come to the end of my antibiotics) weighing 78kg. The picture on the right is just under a year postpartum and weighing 63kg, iv accomplished this weightloss by allowing my body to be nourished back to health with a healthy balanced diet, safe exercises and ensuring I dont cut calories as I am breastfeeding.
I honestly believe that food is a powerful medicine and if you look after yourself your body will return the favour.
Supplements taken with my daily routine consist of:

•Collagen and vitamin C powder (to help aid the recovery of my scar).

•Multivitamin to keep all my nutrients at good levels while breastfeeding.

•High strength vitamin D (for my bone, teeth and mood health).

•High strength omega 3s(for anti-inflammatory properties, joint health and again mood health,I have not suffered from baby blues or low moods while taking these).

Aside from these supplements I ensure I get an adequate amount of protein to help with my scar recovery and internal recovery from the operation, I also believe that protein has helped me recover from the symptoms I was suffering with due to sepsis such as the excessive fatigue and tiredness after introducing training to my routine.

A year sepsis free.

A whole year from this picture on the right my life was dramatically changed, I’d had an emergency csection on my 5th pregnancy and contracted sepsis. Look how things can change in just a year. The girl on the right could never have seen herself were i am today, I couldn’t even imagine the possibility of getting through the week let alone being able to lose 14kg and feel the best iv felt in years.
If you are at the start of your weight loss/recovery journey please dont give up as a year from now you could be in a totally different place,I am proof of that and if I can do it after sepsis and with 5 children (3 of which are under 5) I’m sure you can too.

Be your own motivation.
A whole year can change the way you look.

The picture on the left was when I was in hospital, the picture on the right is a year and 2 months postpartum after emergency csection on my 5th child and surviving sepsis.

Recovery takes time, dont rush to the finish line or you’ll miss out on rebuilding yourself properly. The only way I can explain what i mean is by using an example of a roof to your house, if you had an issue with your roof you’d pay qualified individuals to come and rebuild your roof properly wouldnt you?you wouldn’t expect them to just put a tile on the hole and expect miracles to happen when the bad weather comes in winter. The same goes for your body, dont so a fad diet which won’t rebuild your body after surgery just make it weaker and more susceptible to infections. Build your body from the inside out. Flood your body with good foods high in important nutrients especially high in protein as it helps with the recovery of the csection scar. Keep yourself hydrated it will help you naturally detox your body and transport vital nutrients around the body. Another natural product I believe in is Rooibos tea(red bush tea) which is a naturally caffeine free herbal tea, this contains many nutrients such as zinc which helps heal your scar from the inside.

Keeping active with a fitness routine is also really important to getting your goals and the strong body you want, I believe this is vital especially if your like me and have 5 children to look after.

Recovering from a csection is different for all women, some have an easy time some have an extremely difficult recovery process but what we all share in common is the importance of getting our bodies back stronger after the operation. If you are struggling and looking for some nutrition advice on how to recover from a csection/natural delivery I’ll be more than happy to help.

Im a qualified nutritionist, strength and conditioning coach and personal trainer too so if theres anything I can help with just drop me a DM on instagram.
